Large, well-known nonprofits get lots of attention for the good they do and, thus, an abundance of donations. But small organizations and groups that can’t afford television commercials and big fundraisers often struggle for funding.
With that in mind, 18 years ago Harlan Diamond, president of Executive Caterers at Landerhaven, created the annual Philanthropia luncheon to raise money for smaller nonprofits. Diamond learned after the September 11th attacks that more people were sending their donations to New York to help victims in the aftermath rather than keeping their contributions local. The event was enthusiastically received.
The cost of admission is a $75 check written out to the charity of one’s choice. Executive Caterers and Landerhaven cover all expenses for the luncheon so the nonprofits can enjoy the full donation.
This year’s Philanthropia luncheon, the 18th annual, saw the overall funds raised for local non-profits surpass $2,000,000. Guests enjoyed delicious cuisine, exciting raffle prizes, and performances from The Singing Angels and The City Ballet of Cleveland. The luncheon was hosted by Kristi Capel from Fox 8 News.
